The idea of creating the SBGEA began in 2006 when a group of researchers from the Brazilian National Institute of Space Research (INPE) promoted the First Brazilian Symposium on Space Geophysics and Aeronomy, which took place at INPE headquarters in São José dos Campos, from 23 to 26 October 2006.
In the second edition of the symposium, held in Campina Grande from September 8 to 11, 2008, a meeting was held with the professionals of the area to discuss the future of research in Space Geophysics and Aeronomy. In that opportunity, they realized the need to create an association to better organize scientific policies for the future in Brazil.
In its third edition of the SBGEA, held in Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, from September 01-03, 2010, a working group was set up to elaborate the statute that would be appreciated in the next edition of the event.
In the fourth edition of the event in São Paulo from September 10-14, 2012, the participants of the events unanimously approved the basic text of the Brazilian Association of Space Geophysics and Aeronomy Association (SBGEA). The SBGEA was officially started as a civil association.
During the first management of the board of SBGEA was made a task force to register the status and creation of the association’s CNPJ, when the event reached its fifth edition, which was held in Natal from September 29 to October 3, 2016. The association was already officially operating. In that edition of the event, the general assembly renewed the board, for another mandate to finalize the process of structuring the SBGEA.
The symposium celebrated its 10th anniversary in Jataí and took place from September 26-30, 2016. During the event, the meeting elected and inaugurated the current board of directors that is committed to consolidating SBGEA in its national character and as a Brazilian community of Space Geophysics and Aeronomy.
