É com grande pesar que informamos o falecimento do Dr. Eugene N. Parker. Dr. Parker ficou famoso por desenvolver uma teoria matemática que previa a existência do Vento Solar. A equação de transporte dos raios cósmicos na Heliosfera, que descreve como essas partículas vindas de fora da galáxia são moduladas pela ação das estruturas solares, também foi proposta por Dr. Parker, além do modelo de reconexão magnética. Foi a única pessoa a ter uma missão espacial da NASA nomeada em sua homenagem ainda em vida, a Parker Solar Probe, lançada em 2018. Como bem colocou Thomas Zurbuchen, da NASA, "A existência da área de heliofísica deve muito ao Dr. Eugene Parker".

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Dr. Eugene N. Parker. Dr. Parker became famous for developing a mathematical theory that predicted the existence of the Solar Wind. The transport equation for cosmic rays in the Heliosphere, which describes how these particles coming from outside the galaxy are modulated by the action of solar structures, was also proposed by Dr. Parker, in addition to the magnetic reconnection model. He was the only person to have a NASA space mission named in his honor while still alive, the Parker Solar Probe, launched in 2018. As NASA's Thomas Zurbuchen put it, "The existence of the field of heliophysics owes much to Dr. Eugene Parker".
